Please, DO NOT BUY this 2022 Honda Pilot EX-L like I did.
VIN: 5FNYF5H53NB015146 | Selling At Woods Cross Auto Savvy, Utah
Yeah, that’s right, I’m so upset I made a custom website just to prevent another person from buying this vehicle and getting totally screwed over like I did. Am I angry? You better believe I am.
The car in question is a 2022 Honda Pilot EX-L whith white exterior and tan interior, currently being sold (or about to be sold) in Woods Cross Utah.
This car was supposed to be my forever vehicle, turns out it’s turned into my forever regret. In the whole process, I lost 13 THOUSAND dollars.
My Tragedy in 17 steps
1. Go to a dealership and buy an AWD SUV. Clean title, off road, can tow trailers. Get it from Action Auto Utah for 28k (33k with dealership fees). Vin Number is 5FNYF5H53NB015146 for your reference.
2. Put down a 13k down payment on the car
3. Was told the car was all wheel drive, no accidents, basically like brand new. Said I couldn’t get a better deal.
4. After 13-14 days of owning it, I went to install a trailer hitch. Found out the car is not AWD and I was lied to.
5. I contact Action Auto and they say the best they can do is 23k in a trade in. Totally blown away as I barely owned the car. I contact other dealerships and get pretty much the same trade in value.
6. I leave a bad reveiw cause I have nothing to loose. I get a message back later and they offered me 26k to for a trade in which is a lot better.
7. I call up other dealerships and see if they are willing to match the price as Action Auto does not have the same car model in AWD and I bought a ton of accessories for the pilot so I don’t want to waste that money.
Here's where the story goes off the deep end.
8. I find a dealership (Auto Savvy Woodscross) and the sales guy, Braden, says that what happened to me is terrible and that they are totally gonna match the 26k price. Says that what happened to me was totally unfair. Says they just need to see the car then they can seal the deal.
9. I drive up an hour and a half just to have them value it, super long day. They have their store manager, Braden, take a look at my car for tradein while I expolore their other cars.
Now, keep in mind this dealership is a “rebuilt” dealership. The specalize in getting cars that were wrecked and then fix them up to sell them again. I went with them becuase of how they buttered things up.
10. Find the car I wanted that I was looking at online and get back to talk with Braden (the store manager) who just assessed the car. He tells me there’s “bad news”.
11. I get informed that the car I had was not a “clean title” despite it saying it online. He said that the car was a salvage as it said on a report he pulled and there was tons of bondo on the back, the entier back of the car had been replaced, and that the struts were different. I was totally baffled that the first dealership lied to me.
12. Branden informs me that I got toally ripped off. Says the car could never even sell at a dealership for more than 18-19k and that I lost so much money. I’m informed that I got totally screwed over.
13. They do some number crunching and let me know that the most they can trade it in for is 23k (the same price the other dealerships offered) and there’s nothing they could do. They said they would be loosing a lot of money on the car and would consider it a loss.
14. I end up going with the trade in after calling my wife. I’m so tired and worn out about things. Just want a nice car. I loose my entire down payment and everything. 13k down the entire drain.
15. Get the car. Drive home. Wake up the next morning to reassess the situation. I leave another bad review for the first dealership (Action Auto utah).
The Story gets even worse.
16. The owner of the original dealership calls me and lets me know that AutoSavvy totally lied to me. The car was a clean title, only reason the report said that it was a “salvage” was because it was sold at an acution in bulk with that label. Everywhere else (carfax and everything) said it was a clean title. You can even check it for yourself: 5FNYF5H53NB015146
17. I call up the other dealership toally infuriated. Have a long call with Branden and am blown away by how incompitent and the excuses.
- He tells me I got the car for what other dealerships were offering so what did it matter
- He tells me that the car is worse than a clean title because it has that one “salvage” report. Doesn’t even acknowledge that theres no history of vehicle damage.
- Says they “have” to buy a car as a slavage if it has any report
- He tells me the sales guy (brayden) is new so he made a mistake (I told him it doesn’t matter, new employee or not. It’s their job to train them)
Get told that they were unwilling to do anything to make thigns right. - Says that the dealership gave me a deal with a 1.5k adjsutment to the price but it wasn’t a deal because the term changed for the months after I signed and they did it so the monthly payment could remain the same.
18. I let things cool down and cut my losses.
Then they list the car for 2k more than when I bought it for
19. This was the tipping point. I look up the car and see that it’s listed for 30k as a clean title on their site. I’m totally blown away by how crazy all of this is.
20. Jokes on them, I’ve got nothing to loose and am gonna do whatever it takes to prevent this car from getting sold.
But the car is fine still, right??? Um, no...
On pen and paper, yes, but after driving home the other car I had just bought, I realized just how clunky that 2022 Honda Pilot EXL was. There’s gotta be some validity to the “salvage” thing but I can’t tell since it’s already traded in.
#1. Blinker stays on for 3-4 seconds after you turn it off (electrical problems). Didn’t know until I got the other car.
#2. Car always felt clunky driving. The engine felt like it was chugging and choking on it’s own oil. The new car was smooth as butter (and still is). Totally blew my mind.
#3. They are going to lie to you and tell you it’s a clean title. Good luck trading it in for a good price when they pull the same trick on you as they did with me.
#4. Car is not AWD. For the same price, you could get another 2022 Honda Pilot with AWD. They have the same gas mileage and everything, there’s not point to getting this car, espeically in Utah. I’m also salty that I got lied to.
#5. Back two tires were replaced but the front two are going to wear out faster because they were not.
#6. When I got the car, it was insanely dirty. I spent literally 10 hours (stayed up until 2am) just to clean it out. Was terrible. In the back, the only area I didn’t get fully cleaned out was a freaking oil spill.
#7. Lastly, the car is not worth 30k. I originally bought it for 28k which is saying something. For 10k more, you can buy a new Honda Pilot.
